7th International Mechanical Engineering Congress (SIMEC-2017)
24 & 25 March, 2017





The 7th International Mechanical Engineering Conference (SIMEC-2017) jointly organized by the Institution of Engineers Pakistan, Karachi Centre and NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, in Collaboration with Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries(FEIIC) , Federation of Engineering Institution of South & Central Asia (FEISCA), Higher Education Commission Pakistan, Pakistan Navy Engineering College – NUST and Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering & Management Sciences (BUITEMS) was held on 24th & 25th March, 2017 at IEP Convention Centre. Engr. Syed Wamiq Bokhari, Chief Executive Officer, Pakistan Petroleum Limited, was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural Session. Theme of the Congress was “Green Systems and Innovations”.

The Congress started with recitation of the Holy Quran by Engr. Ali Bin Sohail.

Due to sudden death of Mother of Engr. Prof. Dr. S.F.A. Rafeeqi, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre, could not attend the Inaugural Session.

Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chief Organizer of the 7th International Mechanical Engineering Conference presented welcome address and gave brief about the Conference.

Engr. Dr. Muhammad Tufail, Dean, Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, NEDUET and Convener, SIMEC-2017) also spoke on this occasion

The Key Note Presentation on “Renewable Energy: International and National Perspective was presented by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif, Glasgow Caledonian University, UK.

A presentation on Renewable energy potential in Sindh a remedy to Pakistan Energy Crisis was presented by Engr. Mehfooz A. Qazi Director Alternative Energy Board, Sindh.

Engr. Syed Wamiq Bokhari, the Chief Guest in his speech appreciated the efforts of IEP & NEDUET and thanked for inviting him as Chief Guest.

Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chief Organizer,SIMEC-2017, and Engr. Ayaz Mirza, Secretary, IEP Karachi Centre presented the Congress shield to the Chief Guest, Engr.Ayaz Mirza, Secretary IEP Karachi Centre presented the vote of thanks.

Another presentation on “Geo-Thermal Power Plant Prospects in Paksitan” by Ms. Susan Petty, President and Chief Technology Officer, AltaRock Energy Inc, Seattle, USA done via Skype directly was very highly appreciated by the audience and the interaction was good. It was followed by Q & A.

Engr. Neelofar Hameed, Member, Central Council, IEP Karachi Centre conducted the Inaugural Session.

The Inaugural Session came to an end by Maghrib Prayer followed by Dinner for all particpants.

The Congress was spread over seven technical sessions in two days at Convention Centre and two parallel sessions at Dr. S.A.Hasan Hall and Engr. Asfia Aleem Hall.

CLOSING SESSION

The Closing session was conducted by Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chief Organizer of the 7th International Mechanical Engineering Congress.
The Closing Session started from recitation of Holy Quran.
Engr. Dr. Arshad Abdullah Vohra, Deputy Mayor, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation while Engr. Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Mahmood, Dean Academics, PAF-KIET, Karachi was the Guest of Honour.

Engr. Dr. Arshad Abdullah Vohra in his speech appreciated the efforts of IEP Karachi Centre and NED University of Engineering and Technology for joint venture and gain the knowledge of engineering fields. He also invited Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre and Vice-Chancellor, NED University of Engineering to sit together to get the solution of the mega issues of the city particularly on Climate Change and Public Transport.

Engr. Prof. Dr. S.F.A. Rafeeqi, Chairman, IEP Karachi Centre Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chief Organizer delivered their addresses.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, Vice-Chancellor, NED University of Engineering and Technology, and Engr. Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Mehmood, who was the Guest of Honour also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts made for this conference.

A presentation on “The Envelope of Sustainable Energy” was presented by Engr. Sultan Farooq Khan, Director, ME Consultant (Private) Limited

The Concluding remarks was presented by Engr. Dr. Prof. Mubashir Ali Siddiqui, Chairman, Mechanical Engineering, NEDUET and Co-Convener, SIMEC-2017

IEP Karachi Centre announced to award “Chairman IEP Karachi Centre Antique Medal” to the best paper of the Congress.

Selection Committee comprising of session chairs decided the best paper of the SIMEC-2017.

The best paper award was given to Engr. Ms. Bushra Fatima, Engr. Vokan Esat on their paper entitled "Finite Element Modeling of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Polymer Composites”

Engr. Yousuf Jilani was presented the vote of thank in the closing session.
